Protein powder mixed with Colon cleanse powder?

Protein powder mixed with Colon cleanse powder? Topic: Protein powder mixed with Colon cleanse powder?

Question: I'm on a diet and recently started mixing a tablespoon of colon cleanse in with my protein. I'm starting to wonder if this is going to effect how the protein is digested. Does anyone know if this is ok to do or should I take them separately? I want to get the most out of my protein but I also want to maintain proper digestion since I have a tendency to get constipated fairly easy. The colon cleanse product contains strictly fiber and psyllum husk.

Fiber partially blocks the absorption of protein and nutrients. I have fiber from fruit and flax in my protein shakes, but to take a dedicated colon cleanse with your protein is, well, a little silly. You can do it, but you'll have to add a little more protein powder to get the same benefit. Or you can take the protein first and the fiber a little while later.

No...not okay. Protein is absorbed in the lower intestines. A colon cleanse will hinder, if not block, the absorbtion of the protein. It's like flushing the protein powder down the toilet. Right now, you are, literally, the "middle man!" Do one or the other. When you're done with the cleansing, then go back on protein supplements.

Psyllium has some adsorbent properties. This means that it's possible that it may decrease your absorption of some vitamins and minerals from your protein shake. Now, whether it would interfere with your protein in the protein shake would depend on the protein. If it's a smaller molecule like whey protein it may get absorbed faster and may get in your system before psyllium gets to it. Bottom line, it's better to separate the two by at least two hours. All the best to you

Yes, no problem. I have done it before. If you use more than 1 tsp of the psyllium powder it might get too thick to drink. Also, start slowly with the psyllium powder as it can cause cramping in some people. Because of the absorption associated with psyllium, increase your drinking water requirements daily. *NOW makes an orange-flavored psyllium husk powder that is pretty good: http://www.netrition.com/now_psyllium_pa... Chocolate Whey Powder is my favorite for a change: http://www.herbalremedies.com/wheypure2l...
