i'm gonna be straightforward and say that weight has got nothing to do with your voice. i mean, ok, singers want to look good and they don't want to look fat or overweight or anything. but a true singer wouldn't care about the image, it's just the music you should be caring about. Sean Kingston is a perfect example - it's obvious he's way too overweight but people still love him, his songs and his voice. and when Kelly Clarkson started off, she wasn't what people would call thin either but hey, she still won American Idol and people absolutely love her. i think you should just start off with recording a few popular songs with your voice, and post them on websites like MySpace and Facebook, and Youtube. that's how a number of notable singers made it to the top - including Colbie Caillat and Kate Nash. then you should start making it to local music festivals and talent shows, where hopefully you'll get spotted. stuff like singing competitions, you know :) i WOULD listen to your songs - just give us the link or something :)

If you want to be a singer, a real singer, I commend you! That is rare :) For starters, I would join a choir. I know you are young, but building a resumé will help you. You do not need to do anything drastic early on. If you have not already, I would suggest getting a voice teacher. Tell her/him your goals and he or she will be able to help you as well. Also, your state might have competitions. In Pennsylvania we have PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) which is... You learn a bunch of songs, and you sing them in a blind audition. (and audition where the judges can not see you, they only hear your voice) and you can get to various levels. It looks good on a resumé as well as a lot of fun :) I tried out but did not get passed the first round ^^; I'm not good with those types of auditions. It had some components I was not able to do, but it was a blast meeting all the other singers from the other schools. It is a fun experience. Also, in PA we have something called Governor's School for music. It is a program which requires several series of auditions, but it is prestigious and if your state is like PA, is only for sophomores and juniors in high school. As for a diet, being a bit overweight is not really a problem. What is helpful however is to do sit-ups because it builds up stomach muscles which you use for breath control. Eating healthily is also a good idea. Remember, your voice is part of you. In order to care for your instrument you must take care of yourself. Avoid getting sick, practice good vocal health. Limiting screaming, talking loudly a lot, etc. Drinking dairy is fine, just don't do it before an audition or performance, etc. Once you are in high school, depending on where you live, you can do a bunch of programs. I'm not sure where you live, but in the city I live in there is a local opera company that would do apprenticeship programs so aspiring music students could meet professional singers. Even if opera is not your goal, it is still a wonderful experience. Other things you can do is to take classes. Like, acting classes and dance classes. That will really help as well. It is important to remember that a singer is really an actor who is singing the lines instead of speaking them. That was really long, my apologies. Good luck!

Well for auditions, you could look online for audition places in your town. And for diets (you've probably heard this a lot), is to eat healthy and exercise normally. You could also ask your doctor what the average weight for a 13 year old is. Cause if you go on a diet, you could become anorexic or bulimic. (Look below)

im asinger also and im 14 so i've been there and done that also.lol im a male but i can sing pretty high... okay diets... u should be eating fruits but not alot of citrus fruit because it can kind of clogg the throat and dont eat or drink alot of dairy products. i rremember last year when i was in 8th grade , before my performance in the school talent show i drank milk and i cracked so bad it was sooo embarassing .but if you want to drink some milk drink it 2 hours before you perform.and eat 2 hours before you perform also(anything 2 hrs. before). now excercize... you should at least excersize 4 days a week to keep good bloodflow running in your vocal cords i would prefer jogging or walking for 40 min. but if you have a treadmill that'll work too TRUST ME if you follow this your voice will get better it did for me =) GOOD LUCK!
