Whats the difference between soy and tofu?

Whats the difference between soy and tofu? Topic: Whats the difference between soy and tofu?
June 25, 2019 / By Cate
Question: I've recently decided to become a vegetarian, so I'm just curious.. I plan on eating one of them or both for a meat substitue. Does one taste better than the other? Does one have more nutritional value? I also heard soy was bad for you, (especially pregnant women)-Is that true?

Soy is a great replacement for meat. Products made from soy vary nutritionally, but none is the most superior--soy sauce however is more of a flavor, you wouldn't want to eat it instead of meat. Soy is safe consumed in moderation, but it is known to have a similar effect as the hormone estrogen. It's best to eat fermented soys such as tofu and tempeh, however try to avoid stuff like 'soy protein' or soy protein isolate. Tofu is a product made from boiled soy beans. There are many types of soy foods- miso and tempeh are a couple of others. There are even different types of tofu depending on how much weight they put on top of it during the final stages of production. A heavy weight squeezes water out and makes firm tofu, if they don't put anything on it then it is soft and is called silken tofu. I only use firm tofu in cooking but will use silken tofu in desserts. Anyway, next time you go to a chinese or other Asian restaurant try a tofu dish and see if you like it. But you don't NEED to eat soy or tofu as a vego, there is protein in everything. Lots of other foods like grains and pulses can be used as the basis for meals and provide tonnes of protein. The trick is not to eat the way meat heads do, by removing steak or fish or whatever from the meal and replacing with a meat substitute. Instead look into the countless dishes that are made only from vegetables. Here is a good reference, the vegetarian curry bible which you could sustain you completely if you choose to live off curries: http://images.freelygivetruth.multiply.m... If you eat only very few types of vegetables then you may have a problem, but in general a variety of mixed fruits and vegies will give you all the vitamins and minerals you need with the exception of long chain omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin B12. You can get these from other non-animal sources anyway, but they are less common in vegetarian foods and may need to be supplemented.

soy is not anything. A soy bean is the bean, and soy products come from soy beans. It all begins with soybeans. Soy milk soy bean curd- also known as doufu, or tofu.

a calorie is a measure of energy and carbs, protein and fat provide different amounts of calories for your body. Protein contains 4 calories per gram Carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram Fat contains 9 calories per gram carbohydrate provide the primary energy for the body, if you don't eat enough carbs you won't have enough energy for your bodybuilding training. fibre is contained in plants (vegetables) it helps with bowel function. fibre is not an energy source like protein, carbs and fat. fibre helps control cholesterol and blood glucose levels.
