Question: What is the percentage of a food with low carbs? Say this yogurt has 7% of your daily carbs. Is that too much? What percentage of a food that has carbs is a low carb food? And what are some good carb foods? Thanks.

Basically most fruits and vegetables are low in carbs and high in fiber. That is by far the only thing I found low in carbs. Meat on the other hand have no carbs but all protein. Its diffucult to tell you how much is low carbs. You judge by looking at the total calories and percentage of carbs. A reasonable meal ususally has about 50 to 55% carbs, 25 to 30% protein and 15% fats. So i guess anything with less than that would be considered low carb. But do be careful because low carb may mean more fats. So do see the percentages of the other nutrients.

Are you supposed to have 45 grams per meal or 45 grams per day? I eat 30 grams per day, so I believe it's entirely possible you've been told 45 grams per day, but I want to make sure, as most doctors and dietitians don't recommend such a low carbohydrate intake. Dietary fiber supposedly doesn't get digested or raise blood sugar levels, so some say you should deduct the total amount of dietary fiber from the total carbohydrates. Example: Serving 1 cup Carbohydrate Total: 10 grams Dietary Fiber: 3 grams "Net" Carbohydrates: 7 grams This hasn't been the experience of all diabetics, though, and because of that many diabetics count fiber as part of the carbohydrates. In the above example, you wouldn't add 3 grams and 10 grams. The fiber is included in the total carbohydrates, so you'd just say you had 10 grams. If you want to deduct half, that'd be 1.5 grams of fiber in the above example, making the net carbohydrates 8.5 grams per serving. I don't count fiber from vegetables or flax meal as part of my carbohydrates because they seem to have no impact on my blood sugar levels. I do count all carbohydrates when I have fruit or grains, but frankly I don't eat either one of those food groups anymore.

I think you've misunderstood the carbs. Generally, the recommendation for carbs per meal are 45-60. That's 180-240 calories from carbs per meal. 1/2 cup of juice or a piece of fruit definately fits into this. An apple does not top you off for a day and a banana is not a mortal sin. In fact, fruit has needed fiber and nutrients to help you stay healthy and should be worked into to your snacks/meals along with several portions of vegetables. Dietary fiber isn't digested and can be completely subtracted. Don't count it in you 45-60g of carbs per day at all. You're probably getting carbs if you're eating salty, greasy food. Fried chicken is breaded. Fries are starchy. Hamburgers are served on buns....It's hard to hear, but these foods are really going to harm you over time. People with diabetes are more likely to get heart disease and you really need to cut down on those types of foods. Good luck getting your diet straightened out. You should really see a certified diabetes educator or dietitian who specializes in diabetes. It sounds like you either were given completely wrong information or were rushed out of the doctor's office so quickly that they didn't bother to see if you understood your diet. It's really inexcusable.

I am a low carber and this is what is habitually found in my diet: mustard greens, turnip greens, collards greens, spinach,brocolli,cabbage,cauliflower,tom... squash ( a good substitute for spaghetti ), celery root, romaine and other nutrient dense lettuces, radishes, jicama, cucumbers, fish and seafood, poultry, meats ( I prefer organic free range ). I learned to love bell peppers once I became a low carber. The red bell peppers have 4xs the vitamin C than oranges. All bell peppers are a richer source of vitamin C than citrus fruits.Cantalope, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, nuts...Brazil nuts are among the lowest in carbs. Fats and oils: Coconut oil, olive oil, butter, cream, nut butter with no added sugars, whipped cream,
