Topic: I have always wondered about the super bowl locations what if a team has home field advantage.?
April 19, 2019 / By Betony Question:
This is just an example to my question.
Lets say the Super Bowl is going to be played in New Orleans and this was already pre established years before. Now what if the NFC representative was the New Orleans Saints. I know this has never happened before. I was just wondering, what if it did. Would the NFL have to change the location of the Super Bowl, or sacrifice the AFC team to play a road game for the Super Bowl.
I know, that they alternate the home and visiting teams for some reason. But I am talking about the New Orleans Saints playing in thier home stadium for the Super Bowl. We all know how rabid of a fan base they have in New Orleans so it would be like last year when the Falcons went into the Superdome to be utterly destroyed by the Saints.

The team still has to play the game. If the Saints were to be the rep for the NFC & their opponents were the Patriots of this year, I don't think it would make a difference. Home feild or not, they wouldn't win this year............
The designated "home team" alternates between the NFC team in odd-numbered years (the Chicago Bears in 2007), and the AFC team in even-numbered years (the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006). so if it was the NFC's turn to be the home team than it would be a coincidence that the Saints are the home team in New Orleans.
they would not change the Superbowl location for anything
The locations of the Super Bowl are picked years in advance. For example...they have the locations picked up to Super Bowl XLV which will be at the new Cowboys stadium in 2011. So, if the Cowboys get to the Super Bowl that year they will not change the location.

There's not a lot of expense (like there would be for the Olympics, since the stadium is already built). The team, depending on the deal it has with the city, may or may not get and extra revenue from the use of the stadium (the biggest deciding factor is probably if the team owns the stadium or if the city does). The biggest advantage is for the city, because or tourism dollars. People fly in, stay at hotels, buy food at restaurants, etc, and also buy tickets, merchandise, and food at the game.
