Focus on HEALTHY carbs (complex carbs) and HEALTHY fats (nuts, avocado, EVOO) and you'll be fine. You don't have to go "low" on either, if you're eating healthy amounts of the right kinds of each. From your stats I assume you're female. If so, you cannot naturally get 'bulky muscle' so there's ZERO need to worry about that. Muscle is beneficial, as it speeds your metabolism. Definitely work to build muscle (because you can't get bulky, only lean and toned) as well as lose fat. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism. My eating plan advice is always to eat as clean as possible (avoid as much processed food as you can). That's all you need to do. That means cut out products made with white flour, white sugar, and meals/entrees that come in a box. Shoot for fresh lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, complex carbs (whole grain bread or pasta, brown rice, etc), and healthy fats. FYI: The recommended weight range for a 5'6" female is 124 - 143 lbs, depending on body frame size. I'm 5'6" and my best weight is 145 lbs (medium frame, actually), but if I've been working out and have a little more muscle, I look great up into the mid 150s because my body is a little heavier, but not any larger (as it would be if I were carrying 10 lbs of fat instead of muscle).

That's a REALLY good way to lose weight. People who cut out meat, lose more weight in a shorter amount of time, rather than people who eat meat three times a week (I got this out of my "SKinny B*tch" book.) But if you become vegan (you don't eat anything that comes from animals, like dairy and meat products. And yes, chicken is a meat.), then you NEVER have to count calories. All you have to do is read the ingredient label and make sure there is no meat or dairy products. All you do is eat whenever you're hungry, and whenever you feel like a snack. And it's REALLY good to cut out meat because everytime you consume farmed chicken, beef, veal, prok, eggs or dairy, you are eating antibiotics, pesticides, steroids, and hormones. Even if it says "USDA approved" or "organic", they STILL use all that stuff! They use 20000-30000 different drugs in the animal feed. But the FDA only lists 17000. EDIT: oh and FYI, not ALL the cows are tested for madcow disease. Only 20,000 in over a million are tested for mad cow disease. They just feed the baby calfs the blood of cows, and not the meat, to TRY and prevent it. In Japan, they test EVERY single cow.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read. I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off. It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise. Get started today!

Low fat. But not that you should buy low fat products. Most of those just replace fats with sugars. of course, you want to avoid processed grains and sugars. low carb diets tend to exclude healthy things like fruits and vegetables. While low fat diets tend to exclude un-healthy things like oils and animal fats.

Low carb and sugar reduction will be more beneficial and probably work better than low fat. America headed down the wrong path in the late 1950's when low fat became the mantra. All it did was increase sugar and other carbohydrates. Look where we are now.

At fifteen, unless you are morbidly obese and your doctor prescribes it, you shouldn't be on any diet. It won't hurt you to reduce the amount of carbohydrates you eat. Most people eat far too many of the wrong kinds. Cut out, or cut back on anything made with white flour (most breads and pastas, and all cakes and cookies). Give up carbonated beverages and switch to water. Eat whole fruit instead of drinking juice. There are no exercises that specifically target belly fat. By eating better and exercising more, you can lose fat, but that fat will come from all places, not just your abdominal area. Sit-ups, crunches, and similar exercises can tone up and strengthen muscles and improve your looks, but not remove fat. Ask a trainer at your local gym for advice on what exercises would be best for someone your age.
