Eat smaller portions but more often and exercise often. Doing 30-45minutes of intense cardio each day is probably over-training. If you exercise your way down to your target weight, the best way to keep it off is to sustain your exercise regime. I've been doing the couch-to-5km running program for 2 months and I've lost 26lbs so far http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

You're probably going to think this is ridiculous, but this helped me lose/keep the weight off AND it will help you keep your colon clean/detoxed which is a major part of being healthy and slim. Eat one apple and one raw carrot each day. Incorporate this into your three healthy meal choices and take a 30-45 minute walk (moderate pace) each evening. As long as you eat these and avoid snacking on crap, the weight will fall off. The roughage from the apple and carrot pushes the crap (fats and chemicals) through your digestive tract, and you'll also benefit from the vitamins they contain. A bonus is a carrot each day will also put some color in your skin. Sounds too simple, but sometimes it's the old fashioned (and cheap) solutions that work. Good Luck! (Don't forget to wash your apple and carrot before consuming).

Eat protein after your work outs to build lean muscle. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (fiber), and drink water in place of sugary drinks. Keep away from too much processed foods. Eat whole grains (brown rice, oatmeal, etc). When eating meat, avoid beef, pork and dark meat. Turkey breast is best. Diet pills will not help you keep the weight off, so the best thing you can do is get a burn (work out for more than 30 minutes). Do cardio, and weight lifting for burning maximum calories, and eat protein right afterwards.

I concur with others that fast and quick are not in the same boat. However, you said that safety is the priority, fast being only secondary. That being said... and I know this is going to hurt. Calories in/Calories out. I know you have heard it over and over but frankly, nothing has surpassed this magical formula. Don't worry about eating late at night, just count them as calories. Try to shave off calories by looking at what you already love and finding lighter alternatives. If you want to maintain your weight you can't drastically change your menu. If you love burgers, eat burgers. Just find a burger that you can eat with less calories. Experiment with different breads, toppings and meat for example. As you burn a little excess on the calories and shave a little excess on the eating you will burn off twice as much. Also, I love to challenge myself with endurance events. Even at 180 I run a half marathon twice a year. This helps me keep focused. And believe me, my one long daily walk/job a week during training probably burns off more calories than any of the workouts I did before getting into endurance sports. So, count the calories and keep your eye on the prize. As you go back to your previous weight you will enjoy more and more of life... and food!

Quickly and safely are two words that don't go together :) The key is to change your habbits, to change your lifestyle. THINK everytime you take anything to your mouth, remember your goal. Eat less and helthier, drink plenty of water (the more - the better). After a few days you'll start to feel better and it won't be hard anymore :) Keep up the good work.

Make adjustments. A successful weight loss strategy based on reducing calorie intake and increasing activity can be adjusted to maintain your desired weight once you reach it. Unlike typical diets, this method is sustainable -- it is a lifestyle change, not a binge-and-purge exercise. Slowly adjust your diet and exercise to include more weight training and calories, as much as is comfortable for you. If you do gain any weight back, you want that weight to be lean, toned muscle, not fat. In addition, weight training, no matter what your age, prevents muscle atrophy and can help stave off osteoporosis. * Instead of thinking of it as losing a certain amount of pounds, think of it as being a certain weight. So if you are 145 pounds, and you would like to lose 10 pounds, think of it as being 135 pounds. This helps you think about it as a long-term goal and not just losing the weight to gain it back again.
