Should plastic surgery be done after gastric bypass even if I never been pregnant?
Topic: Should plastic surgery be done after gastric bypass even if I never been pregnant?
April 19, 2019 / By Aura Question:
I am a 27 year old female (260pounds) considering the gastric bypass. I am worried that after the bypass I will need some plastic surgery for the excess skin. I just got married 3 months ago and we are planning to have our first kid anywhere between 2 and 3 years from now. If I do the bypass and right the way plastic surgery, I am worried that by the time I have kids in the future, I will need an abdominoplasty again! Has anyone had this experience? How was your experience with the surgery... bypass? NEED ADVISE SOON!
I am considering this surgery as my last resource... because I tried every possible diet!

I am a Gastric Bypass patient. I'm 31. I had my surgery one year ago and I've lost 135 pounds. I only need to lose another 35-40 to be at my goal weight. I started out at 310 (I'm 5'8) and I'm a much happier, much healthier woman now! I've had zero complications.
Do not listen to these people that say pregnancy after the surgery is bad. it's not. I've known many, many, many women who have had the surgery successfully, had beautiful, healthy babies and then lost the baby weight and were fine. yes, the pregnancy is considered high risk duw to the way your body absorbs nutrients after the surgery, but they just do all little extra blood work and you have a few more appts than other people. You will eat as you normally would post surgery, you just eat a little more frequently.
My husband and I have one child. I had him before my surgery. We plan on having another child int he next 2 years.
Do not worry about having the plastic surgery until after you have your child. Hell. you might not even need or want it. I've lost 135 pounds in 12 months and I honestly do not have that much excess skin. It doesn't bother me one bit!!
Good Luck! The plastic surgery really should be the last thing you think about. Think of how the weight loss will change your life. Think of how much of a better, more healthy and active mother you will be to your child. What your abdomen looks like is that last thing you will be thinking about as you stare in your child eyes :0)

Good luck with your surgery! I know it has helped a lot of people. But if you are having the bypass and not one of the gentler alternatives, that would be my concern about pregnancy. The gastric bypass cuts way down on your ability to absorb nutrients along with the calories. Pregnancy puts an extra demand on the body in order to grow the fetus. It would seem to me that your body will still be able to grow with the baby just like when a skinny person gets pregnant, but the other issue could be important. I'd talk to the people at the bypass place or to my gynecologist first.

You've tried every possible diet. That is what is preventing you from losing weight. You need to just change the way you eat little by little so that you will develop healthy eating habits for the rest of your life. Gastric bypass surgery doesn't change how you feel about food and is a life changing procedure. I have seen many people gain all the weight back after this surgery. I have also seen people who have many problems after this surgery because they are not getting the nutrients that their bodies need. Please reconsider the surgery. Have you watched the show The Biggest Loser? Its possible to lose weight and change your eating habits. I did it. It took me 3 years from start to finish but that was 4 years ago and have stayed slim and feel great. I am 50 years old and if I can do it so can you. Please go to this website radiantrecovery.com. It changed my life and the way I eat and how I look at food. There is so much info out there online. Educate yourself about nutrition, I am currently studying to be a nutritional consultant so that I can help people be healthy. I wish you luck and please be kind to yourself, you deserve it..........If life is so precious then why would you spend one minute of it making yourself sick.....

Absolutely not. You do not qualify. You are barely overweight! You must be at least 100 lbs overweight with a BMI of at least 40 for Gastric Bypass Surgery.

I would advise you not to have plastic surgery begore having kids. It would be a waste of money.
Also you have to be careful when you become pregnant after gastric bypass surgery. This site has a lot of helpful info http://www.weight-loss-surgery-or-weight...
You should really wait to have the weight loss surgery until after you have kids, unless your health is that bad right now.
Hope this helps.

Originally Answered: Which is the best surgery to under go as far as weight loss surgery? Gastric Bypass or Lap-Band??
I went with lap band!!! first bypass they go in and move everything around and its not reversible. Think of this if by chance you got real sick and needed all the nourishment you could get with by pass nothing you can do- lap band a needle and ten seconds and your stomach is wide open. I was back to work the third day. In studies the lap band passes amount you loose into the second year but the thing is that first year if you loose it too fast there will be a lot of sagging skin. do research whats good for me is not always what might be good for another.. 4 week post op weight loss 35 lb. Good luck to you
