Question: i make a large glass (equal to 2 cups) of COLD green tea with 4 packets of splenda. i drink this like 4 or 5 times a day, i just love how it tastes. is this bad for me, and could i gain weight from this? i guess i could do w/o the sugar, but it just doesn't taste as good.

Green tea actually has a lot of health benefits, most specifically antioxidants which can help prevent cancer. You can check around the internet but there are about a million studies on its benefits and it appears there are no major drawbacks. I'd be more worried about the Splenda, it sounds like a moderately high amount of artificial sweetener to be consuming on a daily basis, but that's probably fine anyway. Green tea has a lot less caffeine than regular tea, which has less caffeine than coffee. (People argue with me about this all the time and tell me it's the opposite, but you can check with the FDA.) In short, it's not bad, 4-5 cups of green tea per day may actually be good for you and maybe cut it down just a tad on the splenda. Have you tried a teaspoon of honey? That really isn't a ton of calories, especially compared to soda, and might be more enjoyable.

Also, it is believed that the polyphenols in tea seem to aid in the digestion of fat, truly making it a Chinese diet tea. also, Japanese researchers claim if you drink five cups of green tea a day, you'll burn 70 to 80 extra calories. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, an anti-aging specialist, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and told Oprah's viewers they can lose 10 lbs. in 6 weeks drinking green tea instead of coffee not to mention herbal tea has a wide range of health benefits - i.e women drinking 4-6 cups a day have 46% less chance of getting ovarian cancer, in terms of skin, it's an anti-aging substance - notice how women in asia have beautiful skin and look years younger? there are so many health benefits, i could tell you about them all! check out the links below, it's a good start. but i can say that green tea burns up calories and stimulates your metabolism, provided of course, you don't add any sugar or milk or whatever. if you want green tea to work, you need to drink 4-6 cups a day and you should see results not only in your weight, but your overall body. green tea is a natural relaxer and it also helps clear your skin! herbal tea is a natural laxative, so it's very good for natural digestion. personal experience - i was 47 kilos (l'm 5"1) and i know it's not overweight by any means lol, but then i started drinking 5+ cups a day of a variety of oolong, black, green tea etc and after about 4 months, l now only weigh 45.5 kilos! it's really amazing the effect it has on you, but of course, it is a long term effect and is combined with how it acts as an appetite supressant. i find drinking black tea in the morning is especially good because it increases your metabolic rate which is ideal in the morning times. good luck, and check out the links below, they are really helpful!

Contrary to what a lot of places advertise, green tea will NOT help you lose weight. That is just a lie. It does have some caffeine that *may* speed up your metabolism a little, but not really anything you'll notice. The great benefits in green tea are all the antioxidants. There's more antioxidants in green tea than most fruits or vegetables and most other teas, so keep on drinking all you'd like! I do it too!

it supposedly burns cals, and it may make your biceps bigger, and you can drink 4+ cups with no problem, you wont gain weight.
