Question: I know that what I need is actually SELF HELP. I was in a car accident at age 10 and was put on meds and gained weight due to non-activity with other children. At age 12 I went on "PHEN-PHEN" which is now banned in the US. I lost weight as a kid, and then of course with poor eating habits put it right back on within a few years. At age 14-18 I used "Phentermine" along with a bi-monthly shot of B-12. Lost alot of weight and soon after decided that I would never take another prescription pill. I have found an AMAZING man, we plan to marry, and he loves me with all his heart. 4 years in time together. I am NOW 24 years old, and weigh WELL OVER 300 pounds.When we met I looked well balanced and could be described as sexy. Right now I really need to loose about 150 pounds. Its so much I know...I have alot of $$ In my bank account and am wondering if I should have my excess fat surgically removed. If so, what would the procedure be? I have started to work out again, please respond!!!

If you want to lose weight and keep it off then not only are you going to have to change your diet, but you are going to need to change your lifestyle. There is no miracle diet, Atkins, South Beach, or otherwise. Also, surgery is a last resort. As we age we lose collagen which holds skin to muscle. That's why older people have all that excess skin. But when you lose weight you'll just return to normal. You're only 24. If you were 50 then I would warn you about the excess skin but you're not. The plastic surgery procedure is called liposuction and if you have liposuction but haven't changed your eating habits you'll gain the weight back. Plus you'll have things to worry about like scarring and the recovery period can be very long. Be careful with fat burners. More than likely your blood pressure is above normal. Fat burners put the heart in overdrive. I would strongly suggest that you NOT take them. Now there are prescription medications that help you lose weight. Some block the absorption of fat altogether which can cause you to have loose bowels. Whatever avenue you decide to take you should speak to a doctor. Your problem could be hormonal in which case you'd see an endocrinologist. But see an M.D. to better assess your options. Put that $$$ in your account to better use than surgery. Best of luck to you.

Go on the South Beach diet. It will really help you and if you stick to the first pahse for as long as you can, you will probably drop the wight you need in just 2-3 months. It will really hepl you, so try it out. Here is what you have to do: The diet consists of three phases, (phase 1,phase 2,phase 3) and in each phase the diet changes slightly. Phase 1: You can eat anything you want apart from carbohydrates and foods high in saturated fats. this lasts for 2 weeks and you lose between 8-13lb, but you can continue it for longer if you think you can. Phase 2: You start gradually introducing some of the good carbs and fats back into the diet every day util you reach your target weight. You keep on this phase until you reach your target weight. You will lose between 1 and 2lb a week on this phase. Phase 3: You will maintain the wieght you have lost by eating a balanced but healthy diet. this will be more of a lifestyle then a diet though. You will stay on phase 3 for the rest of your life. And thats about all. I hope this inspires you to grab a book that you will find in most stores. I assure you it will really help and if you think you are up to it then give it a go, it will work if you stick to it. Remeber, work hard and what ever you put in you will get out. If you combine the diet with regular exercise the wieght will fall off. Hope this helps and good luck.

Well look at your history, the surgery would not be a permanent fix, because you will go back to your bad eating habits and inactivity. What you need to do is have will power. Make small commitments to yourself. Say things to yourself in the morning like "today I will walk for 30 minutes, because I am worth it and want to make a permanent change" and then do it no excuses. You should be going for a walk everyday. See if your fiance would like to go with you, it a very positive time to bond with people during physical activity. Also your diet needs to be under control, eat 5-6 times a day in small portions, you should NEVER feel starving or stuffed. Cut out processed sugars, trans fats, saturated fats and enriched flours. Eat lean meats, and tons of veggies. You are allowed ONE non-water drink per day, coffee, diet soda or green tea. Buy some flax seeds, get a grinder and grind it over your meals. Always take a low sodium option when you have a choice. Drink a lot of water.

Getting surgery should be your last option. You have to be one hundred percent committed to losing weight for yourself, your future husband and anyone else important in your life. Buy a book on eating healthy and know the basics of nutrition and apply them little by little. Light workouts for half an hour a day with weight training 2 or 3 times a week and you should see great changes! Don't look for the fast way out, it rarely works or lasts. You have to make a lifelong change to see lifelong results.You can do it.

First off, congratulations for starting to excercise. Did you know that every mile you walk/run/jog you can burn 100 calories? I would suggest that you do the following: 1) Learn about proper portion sizes and stick to it. For example: 1 serving meat = 3 oz = size of deck of cards 1 serving pasta = 3 oz = size of a tennis ball http://www.webmd.com/diet/control-portio... 2) Use an online diet / excercise journal like www.fitday.com. It's free and an excellent motivator. Helps you calculate your basal caloric intake level (how many calories do you need just to live?). Knowing this helps you understand two things: how to reduce your calorie consumption, how your excercise will help you meet your goal. Good luck!

Keep this kind of meal between 400 and 1000 calories. Serve yourself a small portion, so if you like returning for seconds, you'll just finish up eating a normal-size portion.

I was 215, 25% body fat. I went as low at 190, 11.3% body fat. I did Body for Life. Diet and Exercise. Lots of exercise. No junk food or soda. There is no substitute for hard work. Anything worth having takes some measure of dedication. Best of luck.
