While it's perfectly safe to do this, cats might not respond so well to it. This is because cats only have approx. 450 taste buds, this means they rely to a much greater extent on smell to tell them something is good to eat and as cold things don't give off much smell they are seen as less appealing to your cat. One quick way to get around this is to add a dash of hot water to the meat and mash it all up so that the meat is back up to room temprature or just above it before offering it to your cat(s). This has the added benefit of helping ensure your cat takes on enough fluids during the day and can really help cats prone to bouts of FLUTD remain on a mostly normal diet.

Lizzy's food goes into the fridge every day, she is a 4 month old with a little tummy and cant eat a whole 3oz can at one time..my Vet told me that it will be ok in the fridge for about 3 days (covered)...and DO not feed it to her cold, it will upset her tummy or she may not eat it, so i put it in the microwave for 6 seconds, then shes happy to eat.. If it has only been 1 day, it should still be ok...

Yes. They might not like it straight away if its too cold. The only real reason to cover the food is to protect the other stuff in the fridge, tho' covering does stop it drying out too.

as long as it is only a day old and it is in the fridge, then that will be just fine. if they cannot consume the whole can of cat-food, then try giving them cat biscuits. that way, you don't have to worry if the food will still be fine for them or not.

I have heard you should let it come up to room temp before serving it to them, that the cold can give them a tummy ache.

You didn't state "why" or "who" told you to switch their diet from dry to canned. If they are usually fed dry, you need to make the transition to "wet only" gradually. Canned tuna IS NOT the correct answer...it does not give the cat what is needed to keep him/her healthy. A cats system is totally different from a human or dog, so foods made specifically for cats is what is needed. With this limited information, it is difficult to make a recommendation...it is best to learn to read labels and know exactly what ingredients are in the canned food. There are many informative articles on cat food ingredients on the internet, so possibly you could do a search there and find the information you are seeking. Wish I could have been more specific, but not knowing the who and why make it more difficult.
