I am worried about my over weight 5 year old?

I am worried about my over weight 5 year old? Topic: I am worried about my over weight 5 year old?

Question: My daughter is 5, and she weighs 65lbs. I just bought her clothes and for them to fit her waist I have to get them in size 10/12!! I know this is NOT normal and I am extremely concerned. She has a Dr Apt this month, but in the mean time I thought I would ask for some opinions on what I can do to help her. She is a VERY picky eater. She only eats a few things and flat out refuses to eat anything that is good for her. The only foods she eats are: bean burritos, macaroni and cheese, PB&J sandwiches (HER FAVORITE!) and grilled cheese sandwiches. She does eat apples, but that is the only healthy food she eats. She only drinks water, I don't give her juice but I know that this is not a healthy and balanced diet for her. We live in a really cold state that always rains and she doesn't want to go outside - cant blame her and she is on a wait list for a pre school. What can I do to help her lose weight or at least not gain any more?!! I am very worried!! I was always a bit chubby as a child but at her age I weighed 50lb's and I am worried she is on the track to severe obesity. Please help!

Don't give her what you don't want her to eat. Don't buy it, don't offer it, don't allow it. Change your own diet too. If you are overweight then go on a healthy diet with her. She will eventually eat what you offer. Eat at the same time every day. If she refuses her food then make her sit til you are done with a plate in front of her. If she hasn't started eating by the time you are done then put it in the fridge. Offer it for a snack. If she still doesn't eat it then save it for the next day. Do the same thing with dinner but offer something else. Feed her whatever you are eating. If you start eating healthy and stop buying junk then she will start eating healthy and won't be eating the junk since it won't be available. Juice is not all that healthy. She is to old for preschool. Just wait til kindergarten starts next year. It's not worth paying for preschool for just a few months. Look into the sport classes she can take inside. Martial arts, dance, swim, track, etc.. All are available inside. And many are offered at the YMCA. To the person who said I bet she's just chubby and adorable. Chubby is unhealthy. And if you have to get plus size clothes for your child then it is definitely unhealthy.

She's pretty big I was probably 10 and weighed that now I'm 13 and weigh 108. She should play out side more and eat more healthy.

I would wait on the preschool and just wait till kindergarten. Does she like to dance or anything like that? My daughter is the same age and loves dance and gymnastics. You could use the money you would spend on preschool and just sign her up for activities to do indoor. I have noticed alot of chubby little girls in my daughters gymnastics class and they do just as well as the other girls and seem to really like it. I would look into it and also swimming classes my daughter loves those as well.

Awwww I wouldn't consider her obese. I bet she's just chunky and ADORABLE!!! And about the clothes thing, ik in boys they have husky, don't they have children plus sizes for girls?? I think they do at JCpenny. Does she like any sports??? Maybe you can sign her up for a sport. I wouldn't stress it too much though, she'll thin out. My neighbor was a VERY big young child and now she is a teen and average size.

The symptoms you mentioned match those of someone with diabetes. Especially if you have frequent thirst. If you cannot explain the weight loss, see a doctor to make sure it isn't something serious. z
