Question: BESIDES WARM MILK... ew. lol most things don't work for me, and i have to wake up at 7am tomorrow, and for the next 3 months, which is very difficult for me (i was late to school almost everyday for like.. 6 years) because it's really hard for me to fall asleep, and once i do, i sleep until anywhere from 10am to 2 pm. i try to go to sleep when i'm tiered or about to pass out but then i just lay there for EVER. I'll get up and do something until I get tiered again, but that either doesn't happen, or i'll go back to bed and won't fall asleep again. so ANYWAYYYY i need something now, not some plant i need to go hiking to find or something like that. are there any real HOME remedies? ... besides the milk.. i just can't do that >.<

i strongly suggest valerian root. it's great at relieving stress and tension! you can get it over the counter and it's a great sleep aid! if you have one of those "racing minds" or "i can't turn my head off no matter how tired i am" then this will definitely help. you can find at your local grocery store in the pharmacy or herbal remedy section. start off taking 500-1000mgs, 30-45 minutes before you go to bed. now you can get this stuff in capsule form and it's 100% safe (my whole family has been taking it for years and our family doctor actually recommended it) however the only downside is that the more potent the brand your taking the stronger the smell. and this stuff smells AWFUL! but it's worth it. within 5-7 days you should notice a definite change in your sleep. WARNING! i strongly do not suggest that you take Tylenol PM and booze, in any form or combination. the main ingredient in Tylenol PM and Advil pm, or benadryl for that matter is diphenhydramine. here's what happens when you take it: You can walk into a drugstore and choose from an array of sleep aids, offered without prescription. The main ingredient of over-the-counter sleeping pills is an antihistamine. Antihistamines are generally taken for allergies, but also make you feel very sleepy. Common over-the-counter sleep medications are Sleep-Eze, Sominex, Nytol, and Unison; they contain antihistamines such as: diphenhydramine hydrochloride, diphenhydramine citrate, or doxylamine succinate. In general, over-the-counter sleep medications are not a good choice because they: Are not intended for long-term use. Interfere with mental alertness during the day, so you should avoid driving and other similar tasks. You may also be at risk for falling asleep Reduce the quality of your sleep by reducing time you spend in deep sleep. Use over-the-counter sleep medications only for transient or short-term insomnia and in conjunction with changes to your sleeping habits. Be sure to pay attention to your body’s physical response to these sleep medications. also look at the links on the website i've listed they have some good remedies! I hope this helps!

You might have insomnia instead of adding something try removing or cutting down on something. Do you take Amphetimines for ADHD? Do you drink Coffee/Soda? Ect You might have ADHD (I am not a doctor this is just my opinion) I have it and my mind just races when I don't have my medicine but when I take to much then I can't sleep either, you gotta find the right dose Simple way to find out of you're ADHD, does Coffee make you tired?

Chamomile tea. Republic of Tea makes a fabulous blend that I swear by. I also take a 5mg Melatonin supplement on particularly difficult nights.

Do a lot of aerobic exercise if you can well before you sleep so you are tired. Also don't go to sleep with a full stomach it will keep you awake all night. I used to take sleeping tablets at one time & I think they helped.

There is some evidence that Melatonin can provide temporary relief. Be careful with St. John's Wort. The evidence in favor of cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia is good. The Handbook of Self-Help Therapies reports that it has a 75% success rate. On the other hand, it's not easy to access the people who provide it. That's why the Handbook is important for insomniacs. It says that some popular books are based self-help principles proven in clinical studies, books such as No More Sleepless Nights by Peter Hauri, Can't Sleep, Can’t Stay Awake: A Woman’s Guide to Sleep Disorders by Meir Kryger, and Say Goodnight to Insomnia by Gregg Jacobs. You can order these from Amazon.com and probably Amazon UK as well. An article from the University of Maryland. http://www.umm.edu/sleep/sleep_hyg.htm
