Question: Hi, I'm 14 years old and I weigh 275lbs. I've been struggling with my weight since I was 7 years old, have tried just about every diet plan or life style routine there is--- and none of them have worked. I am tall, and healthy besides mental health (which does impact my weight, including medicines I'm on that increase my weight) and my cholesterol and blood pressure. I usually don't admit this, but I eat pretty unhealthily. I am an extremely picky eater, and I have routines of what I eat everyday for the past year. I own an exercise machine, and I don't know what would be a good amount to work out everyday? I have 3 months until school and I want to at least lose 20lbs. Can someone help me? What foods should I eat? What are some foods I should avoid? How long should I work out per day? How long does it take to lose 50lbs? Please help, I've tried everything. I have so many factors that make me this way. There has to be someone out there who can give me a basic idea of what I should do, what I should start on, and why hasn't anything worked previously?

I was like you in many ways. I struggled and did EVERY single diet in the book. There was a point I eventually gave up and didn't want to try anymore. I did everything from the Insanity program to 60 minutes on the treadmill a day. But I eventually gave up or lost the motivation to continue. I ate like complete garbage and I never got any where. I always wanted to have a fit body I just didn't know how. One day my friend came to me who is a great weightlifter. He lifts everyday and I was just in shock of his recent results. I couldn't believe what happened to this guy. He transformed completely. This one friend gave me the motivation to start lifting. I bought dumbells and whey protein. Because of him I started lifting about 6 times a week. I hit everybody part twice a week. Eventually I started seeing insane results. I dropped 23+ pounds of body fat as well as gained incredible amounts of muscle. If I were you I would start lifting . It has changed my life in every aspect. Not only am I physically stronger but mentally too. What has helped me was finding some kind of motivation while in the gym. Use anything in your life. For me, I got motivated to go from all the people in my life who told me I couldn't do something or I would end up failing in life. Once you find that particular motivation you will go far. Now I know your only 14 but just start lifting light. Cut back 500 calories from your maintenance. Also start drinking whey protein after your workout. After lifting do about 15-20 minutes cardio. Start of on the treadmill and then work your way to jump rope or jumping jacks. Stick with it. I usually look at the scale once a week because my weight fluctuates b/c pf water weight. It will be incredibly hard at first but going to the gym will be something you look forward too. Find music you like also and play it at the gym ( it really helps). Hit for example triceps and biceps one day. Hit chest and shoulders the next. Etc. Cut down on any carbs and fats and eat more protein. Chips and bread got to go. Eat a good amount of meat and chicken. Rice is great as a good carb. Find healthy snacks like low fat pop corn and yogurt. YOU CAN DO THIS. Just please stick with it. Do Not Give Up. IMPORTANT: If you exceed your calories for the day that doesn't mean your whole week is ruined. The following day is a clean sheet where you can start over.

Good news: the more you weigh, the shorter it usually takes to burn fat. That's right since you seem to have a lot of excess, after a few weeks of correct diet and proper exercise you will see some pretty good results. Make a workout schedule. Workout 3-5 days of the week for 30mins to 1.5 hours.

eat clean (nothing processed, nothing out of a box or bag) whole fruits, vegs, and lean cuts of meats. do light cardio every day, walk at least 1 hr a day (you can break it up into 2 - 30 minutes if you want). Lift heavy.

someone posted that rice crispy treats have no calories--- i think they were probably referring to the water and tea they previously mentioned but i figured id let you know, they DO have calories lol. (about 100 for the packaged kind- yum) i do weight watchers, i LOVE it. when i first started, i lost 5 lbs before the first 2 weeks was even up! even if that doesnt sound like much to you since youre in such a rush, it feels AMAZING when you lose the first time, whether its one pound or ten lol. and that pushes you to keep going! i really think you should look into it, their website talks about their two different programs. im on the flex plan, which means any food you can imagine has a points value, you can still have any food you want, its just a matter of staying within your points for the day, which to me has REALLY helped the overall problem of portion control and eating when im not actually hungry. its something that you can do the rest of your life if need be, OR fall back on if you notice the scale creeping back up a couple lbs, because its TEACHING you something. its not about deprivation or anything. i LOVE food lol and i love this plan. DONT beat yourself up, that wont help you get anywhere, im like you and after 2 years of being OFF weight watchers and not gaining back a single pound (and i ate whatever i wanted lol) i started gaining about 6 months ago, and it crept up on me and now i ahve to redo about 20lbs worth of work which makes me so mad at myself but i can be mad and try a crash diet and maybe lose 5 lbs that INEVITABLY ill gain back, OR i can just go back to a program that isnt hard, and WORKS. weight watchers is popular for a reason, you should seriously look into it :) (no i dont work for them, it just works and its so much simpler than people think.) feel free to email me if you wanna talk more about this --- ive recovered from anorexia-- trust me quick fixes are not the answer. Ill be glad to talk to you about any of this if you want! just be positive!
