I am 39 and this is my 3rd child, i lost 55 lbs in 8 months with the first and 40 lbs in 8 months with my second child. My 3rd child was born on May 1st, i have already lost 35 lbs and it hasn't even been 2 months yet.

There is an unsafe aspect to weight loss during breastfeeding. When you lose weight fast more toxins are eliminated through breast milk. If your weight loss occurs naturally and you are not dieting or exercising in excess, what you can do is drink more liquids so you can lose weight more gradually

congratulations on the weight loss. As you are breastfeeding you need to keep your food up, small constant snacks... I have been breastfeeding now for 18months and have found that I lost weight very quickly and have stayed slim and at a constant weight, even though I eat all the time. I think weight loss is safe as long as you do not become underweight quickly. you need lots of energy for breastfeeding, so don't drop calories quickly.
I got lots of info from la leach league, have a look on their website and forums.

I met with a nutritionist after the birth of my second daughter b/c I have about 80lbs to loose! yikes... I have lost 30lbs so far (Go me!) anyway, the nutritionist suggested no more than 3lbs a week b/c it can affect the milk supply. If you have lost this much already and still have a good milk supply, I wouldnt be too worried. I am sure your weight loss will start to slow b/c it normally does after a few months. I lost 15lbs my first month, and a total of 15lbs in the past few months (havent really been trying as hard, I have pretty much maintained for the past two)...

Your body knows best. I went down to 7 pounds below my pre pregnancy weight, and regained it when I stopped breastfeeding when my baby was 20 months old. But the second time I actually gained weight while feeding.

The 'natural' weight loss that comes with breastfeeding and eating a sensible diet/exercising is safe at any time. As long as you are not doing a fad or extreme diet (which is UNsafe at any time) don't worry about losing 'too much' weight.

Count your blessings. Breast feeding lets you loose weight faster. Maybe you are just speeding up the process this time. A lot of diets could even give you these results so as long as you are getting enough protein, the baby is fattening up and looking healthy, and you are seemingly in good health, just consider it a blessing =)

I suggest you only take your child when he is healthy. Even though the 'illness' is contained in a diaper...it's very possible that bacteria or virus' could be present in his whole body & be passed on with other fluids or contact. Think about how often a young child touches their own faces & eyes. That's a lot of fluid that can then be passed to the newborn.
